Fidelis snags Swiss Re executive to drive ESG

Bermuda-based re/insurer  Fidelis has hired a new head of sustainability from Swiss Re to support its “ambitious goals” in all areas of ESG.

Olivia Brindle (pictured) joins Fidelis to help the organisation “make a difference” on both environmental and social issues.

Brindle was an investor relations senior manager at Swiss Re, where she interacted with a wide range of stakeholders - both internal and external - on topics of financial and strategic importance. This increasingly included involvement in sustainability, given the growing importance of these issues for investors.

Charles Mathias, Fidelis group director of underwriting, said: “At Fidelis we believe that ESG has to pervade every area of our business including our underwriting portfolio, as well as our operations and investments.  We are setting ambitious goals in every area of E, S and G and we aim to be a leader in all three.  As such we wanted to find a Head of ESG who understands how the industry works and what stakeholders from policyholders to shareholders are looking for from a partner.  Having worked as an insurance analyst at banks, and partnered with the ESG team at Swiss Re, we think Olivia will bring analytical skills, industry knowledge and a real passion to the role.”

Brindle commented: “I am truly excited to be joining Fidelis; a nimble and dynamic company that wants to make a difference on both environmental and social issues.  The goal is to bring honesty, rigour and accountability to the treatment of sustainability topics. These discussions raise many fundamental questions and we - all insurers, all corporates - must continually refine our approach while making a tangible impact through how we do business every day.”
