Hiscox hires Starr leader to tap opportunities in casualty market

Specialist global insurer  Hiscox has hired a new casualty director to help capture new opportunities in the London market.

Colin Buchanan will join the company from Starr Group as divisional director of casualty for its London Market business.

Buchanan brings over 35 years’ experience and was most recently director and head of international casualty at Starr. Prior to that, he worked in a number of senior casualty positions across the globe, including roles at American International Group (AIG) and AHAC Australasia.

As part of the broader Hiscox London Market leadership team, Buchanan will be based in London, managing a team of experienced underwriters writing cyber, D&O and general liability to deliver the company’s strategy of growth in these key lines.

Paul Lawrence, chief underwriting officer at Hiscox London Market, said: “Colin has a wealth of global casualty experience and a fresh perspective for our brokers and clients which will help us achieve our growth ambitions. This is an exciting time to be joining Hiscox as we accelerate investment in our data and analytical capabilities, enabling us to capture new opportunities in the market.”

Buchanan commented: “I’m looking forward to being part of a team that is well placed to make the most of this buoyant market and deliver for our brokers and clients.”
