Insurtech Previsico to provide data for UK flood mapping tool

The Cabinet Office and Airbox Systems have launched a new flood risk mapping platform ResilienceDirect in the UK. The data for the platform will be provided by flood forecasting insurtech Previsico.

Previsico’s data will provide insurers with an accessibility map in the case of flooding, enabling the claims teams to more accurately understand where it has occurred, to reach affected properties and protect vulnerable people. It will also enable an earlier indication of total losses, reduce fraud, and improve claims efficiency.

ResilienceDirect is designed to provide local government, emergency services, utilities, and hospitals a single platform for to access warnings of flood risk and plan for and brief against all types of resilience events across the UK.

The platform incorporates surface water flood modelling, said to be a bigger issue in the UK than river and coastal flooding.

Jonathan Jackson, CEO of Previsico, said: “There is no better way for emergency services to create contingency plans and to brief teams. The platform allows users to draw from an incredible range of government-supplied, authoritative data and mapping, including, uniquely, for surface water flooding. We are also proud to be able to provide our data direct to insurers and brokers, to protect lives and livelihoods.”

Luana Avagliano, head of ResilienceDirect, said: “It is imperative that in this ever-changing and challenging world, we stay up-to-date and embrace emerging technologies. This is why, as always, user requirements have driven our ResilienceDirect mapping capability. We will continue to provide the best possible tools for our Resilience Community and support their mission to Save Lives and Keep the UK Safe.”
