Lloyd’s re/insurer Apollo appoints new chair of syndicate management

Specialist Lloyd’s re/insurer Apollo has appointed a new chair of the  Apollo Syndicate Management Limited (ASML) board, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services and the insurance sector.

Angus Winther’s (pictured) appointment as new ASML chair follows the retirement of Julian Cusack from his duties. Cusack will remain part of Apollo as chair of Apollo Group Holdings (AGHL).

Winther was a founding partner of Lexicon Partners, the London based investment banking advisory business that was acquired by Evercore in 2011, and served as a senior adviser at Evercore until 2016. He was previously a partner at Phoenix Securities after beginning his career at Chase Manhattan Bank. He is currently a non-executive director of Ecclesiastical Insurance Office and its parent Benefact Group, and was previously a non-executive director of Hiscox Syndicates.

David Ibeson, Apollo Group CEO, said: “I am pleased to welcome Angus to the ASML Board. His expertise across insurance and corporate finance will play an important role as our business continues to grow in new and existing areas. I would like to thank Julian for his support and leadership over the last 8 years. Julian has played a key role in the success of our business and we are delighted that we will retain his input and leadership as Chair of the AGHL Board.”
