Markel exec replaces LMA's property panel chair

Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) has appointed a Markel executive as chairman of its Worldwide Property Panel, which leads on a wide range of issues affecting Lloyd’s managing agents and syndicates on behalf of the Lloyd’s market.

Dean Pitts, managing director - property open market at Markel, replaces outgoing chair Nick Jones. Pitts takes on his new role, in addition to his role at Markel, with immediate effect.

In addition, Rhys Thomas (XL Catlin), Michael Williams (Hiscox) and Mark Abrahams (AmTrust) have been elected to the panel. Derek Hansen (Sompo Canopius) and Simon Clegg (Atrium) have been re-elected. All will serve the panel for a three year term.

According to the LMA, one area of focus for the panel in 2018 will be continued engagement with the Placing Platform Limited (PPL) project team and brokers to ensure that the platform provides efficiencies to the underwriting process, following PPL going live for property risks in November 2017. PPL is the London market's electronic placing platform solution.

Other topics of discussion for the year ahead will include cyber exposures as well as continued analysis of the impact of the 2017 hurricanes and other significant catastrophe losses.
