Markel strengthens financial lines underwriting to expand business in Asia

Markel International has hired a new financial lines underwriter with over 16 years of insurance industry experience as it looks to expand its capabilities in Asia.

Priyesh Pradhan (pictured) will be based in India as a financial lines underwriter, where he will work together with the professional and financial risks team to develop and manage Markel’s liability portfolio. He will report to Anirudh Singh, chief underwriting officer of Markel India.

Pradhan joins Markel with more than 16 years of experience in the insurance industry. During this time, he has worked across various insurance companies – including the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) Ergo General Insurance Company – handling diverse roles in business development and liability underwriting.

Christian Stobbs, managing director of Markel International in Asia, said: “We look forward to having Priyesh join our team in India, which will allow us to grow our underwriting expertise and expand our business in Asia. In line with our aim to expand the Asia business, it is vital that we have underwriting expertise in the respective local markets to ensure we meet the ever-changing needs of our clients.”
