Markel taps former Aon underwriting talent to expand in Asia
Specialist insurer Markel has hired an “excellent underwriting talent”, formerly of Aon, to help boost its capability in the trade credit and political risk landscape within Asia.
James Guardino (pictured) joins Markel International as a trade credit and political risk underwriter.
Based in Singapore, he will report to Nicholas Davies, senior underwriter for trade credit and political risk at Markel International in Asia, and will work closely with the global trade credit and political risk team to help existing clients and develop business across Asia Pacific and the wider Markel business.
Guardino has 10 years of experience in the re/insurance industry and has previously held roles at Aon and Texel Asia. He spent seven years with Aon in Singapore in various broking roles.
Davies said: “We are looking forward to having James join the team in the midst of expanding our Asia capabilities. With his experience as a broker, he brings an additional skill set to complement our existing offering, as we look to develop our trade credit and political risk solutions across Asia Pacific.”
Christian Stobbs, managing director of Markel International in Asia, added: “In tandem with our goals of expanding our business in Asia and hiring excellent underwriting talent, we are excited to have James onboard. We believe that with his appointment, Markel will be able to extend its underwriting capabilities in the trade credit and political risk sector within the region.”
