Markel targets energy underwriting expansion in Asia with key hires

Markel International, a subsidiary of the  Markel Corporation, has hired two specialist energy undewriters from Aon and Oman Insurance.

Max Robbie (pictured left) has been appointed as head of upstream – Asia, based in Dubai. He will work closely with the businesses’ global energy team to further expand its energy portfolio in the Asia Pacific region. He will report directly to Christian Stobbs, managing director of Markel International in Asia.

Yong Ruay Heah (pictured right) joins Markel International’s Singapore office, where he will work across the specialist insurer’s upstream and renewable energy business lines. Heah will report to Tom Baker, head of renewable energy.

Robbie joins from Oman Insurance Company (OIC) where he served as lead energy underwriter. Heah worked at Aon as part of the construction, power & infrastructure team for Asia.

Stobbs said: “We are excited to have both Max and Yong Ruay join us to propel the expansion and development of Markel’s energy underwriting capability in the Asia Pacific region. Based on their experience and knowledge in the energy markets, their involvement further supports our desire to bring specialist expertise to brokers and clients in the region.”
