Marsh welcomes back specialist to lead UK specie business

Insurance broker and risk adviser Marsh has appointed Philip Turner as UK head of specie within Marsh JLT Specialty. Based in London, Turner is expected to join the business in the first quarter of 2020.

Turner has 40 years’ experience, specialising in the placement of commercial insurance for fine art, jewellery, precious metals, cash in transit, investor protection, and digital assets.
Most recently, he was specie underwriter at Pioneer Underwriting and was previously head of specie at insurer Canopius for four years. Turner led Marsh’s Specie Practice from 1997 to 2015 and spearheaded the development of solutions in the areas of kidnap and ransom, cash in transit, and product recall.

Commenting on Turner’s appointment, Paul Moody, UK CEO, Marsh JLT Specialty, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Philip back to Marsh; his experience in the highly specialist specie insurance market – both as an underwriter and broker – is second to none. Clients and colleagues will benefit significantly from Philip’s knowledge as we continue to develop services and solutions that provide firms with the protection they require to operate successfully in this fast-paced sector.”

Turner added: “The specie insurance market is one of the most dynamic parts of the industry and is at a pivotal point in its development with the emergence of new technologies such as cryptocurrency and AI-generated art. Marsh is the UK’s leading specie insurance broker and I’m very much looking forward to my return.”
