MS Amlin names former Ariel Re executive as head of reinsurance

MS Amlin Underwriting (MS AUL), the Lloyd’s market re/insurer, has named a new head of reinsurance.

Matthew Wilken will take up the newly created role in early May, subject to regulatory approval. He will be based in London and report to Andrew Carrier, chief underwriting officer of MS AUL.

Wilken has more than thirty years of reinsurance experience and most recently served as active underwriter of Syndicate 1910 and deputy global head of reinsurance at Ariel Re.

He began his career at Kiln Syndicate where he held various posts before taking on the role of deputy active underwriter. He joined Argo Re in 2008 as chief underwriting officer, and in 2013 became president, assuming responsibility for its European reinsurance office in Brussels and managing coordination with all London-based Treaty classes.

Carrier said Wilken’s appointment “demonstrates our commitment to enhance both the bench strength of our reinsurance team and support our ongoing business transformation.”
