Nationwide insurance to cut 1,100 US jobs
Ohio-headquartered Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company is reducing its workforce by 1,100 positions in the US and will start laying off about 80 workers at its downtown Des Moines location, according to several regional news publications.
"These are difficult but necessary choices to position the company for the future," Nationwide spokesman Joe Case reportedly said. "We are committed to moving through this period with great respect and full support for those impacted."
Nationwide provides insurance and financial services for private clients and businesses across the US.
Job cuts are set to take place mostly in the IT, marketing, P&C operations and bank organizations, according to the Des Moines Register. Nationwide has reportedly more than 770 open positions posted internally and employees affected by the cuts are encouraged to apply for those openings.
