Nexus snaps up Marc van der Veer from Ardonagh as CEO of European ventures

Specialty managing general agent (MGA) Nexus Group has hired Marc van der Veer as chief executive officer (CEO) of European Ventures.

He joins Nexus from Ardonagh Group where he was CEO of international for specialty MGA, Geo Underwriting. Prior to that, he held a number of senior positions within the insurance industry, including as general manager of Partner Re Wholesale, providing capacity to underwriting agencies for SME business. He was also chief underwriting officer of European specialty at Torus (now StarStone) and previously was managing director of Hiscox Europe.

In his new role, van der Veer will focus on Nexus' " buy and build strategy" for niche European specialty MGAs. He will then manage the acquired businesses which will sit within a new division of the Nexus Group.

He will report to group CEO Colin Thompson, who said: “We are very pleased to welcome Marc to the Group and are looking forward to working together on this new chapter in our growth story, having successfully worked with him for many years in the past.

"Marc has extensive knowledge of MGAs and a vast network of relationships in Europe. Coupled with his vision for growth opportunities, this all aligns him very closely with the Nexus ethos as we look to develop our European MGA offering.”
