QBE Re has unveiled a number of new appointments to support its strategic growth ambitions in North America.

The reinsurer has merged its financial & professional lines and casualty sub classes under the leadership of Salvatore Sama (pictured left), who joined the firm in April 2021 as senior vice president - head of US financial and professional lines from Swiss Re.

Sama will serve as head of US financial & professional lines and casualty treaty, based in  QBE Re’s New York office.

Additionally, Jane Farren (pictured right) has been promoted to the role of vice president, US financial & professional lines having previously held the role of lead financial & professional lines treaty underwriter.

Tim Barber has been appointed as general manager for North America on a permanent basis, having assumed the role on an interim basis in April. Prior to that, he was head of casualty treaty London since 2011. Barber will also perform the role of global head of casualty treaty.

Peter Wilkins, interim managing director of  QBE Re, said: “I am delighted to announce these changes to our New York team which demonstrate the depth of talent we have at  QBE Re and will help to deliver on our strategic ambitions for sustainable growth in North America.”
