QBE snags Liberty Mutual vet to expand D&F property in Canada

Re/insurer  QBE has drawn a Liberty Mutual veteran to drive further expansion of its direct and facultative property portfolio in Canada.

QBE Canada has appointed Melanie Mason (pictured) as underwriting manager, property. In this role, Mason will be responsible for leading QBE’s property underwriters, based in both Toronto and Vancouver. She will also join its underwriting leadership team to help develop and implement innovative growth strategies.

Mason replaces property underwriting manager Lisa Wolfe, who has been promoted to the role of portfolio manager in QBE’s direct & facultative international property team, based in London, UK.

Mason comes to QBE from Liberty Mutual Canada, where she gained over 20 years’ experience in the property space. She held various roles at Liberty, most recently as national property manager & assistant vice president commercial insurance, Central & Atlantic Region.

Based in Toronto, Mason will report to Scott Pidduck, director of underwriting, who said: “The property portfolio in Canada has shown positive performance over the past few years and with the addition of Melanie to the team, we intend to pursue further innovation and growth opportunities. Melanie’s expert knowledge of the Canadian marketplace is a great asset to QBE and our customers.”
