Swiss Re appoints new head of automated underwriting strategy in Asia

Global reinsurer  Swiss Re has appointed a new head of its automation underwriting solution Magnum in Asia.

Barbara Scalzi will take up the role of head Magnum Asia, based in Singapore. She will be responsible for defining Magnum's strategy across the region, and help drive the development of innovative solutions, leveraging alternative data to meet customer needs.

Before joining Swiss Re, Scalzi spent three years at fintech platform UnderwriteMe, where she served as director of business operations and customer success. Prior to that, she spent 13 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where she held various regional roles in London and Singapore and was involved in driving regional business growth and implementing change in emerging markets, such as Russia and Turkey.

"We are pleased to have Ms Scalzi join the Swiss Re team to oversee our Magnum offering, and to support our clients in becoming future-ready," said Dylan Rowe, head life & health automated solutions. “With more than 20 years' experience in the financial services industry and a track record in the Insurtech space, she will be a great asset to the team.“

Russell Higginbotham, CEO reinsurance Asia at Swiss Re, added: "The pandemic has brought heightened awareness and drive to accelerate digitalisation throughout the industry. Our clients are keen to understand how they can make better use of their data, reduce costs and increase efficiency through automation. Magnum, being our flagship automated underwriting solution, is an important tool to enable this process and we are confident it will continue to grow and transform under Ms Scalzi's leadership."
