AIG taps ex-Aon to help optimise capital strategies and create new ILS products

American International Group (AIG) has hired  Gero Michel from re/insurance broker Aon to lead the risk analytics function across its Validus, Alphacat, and Talbot brands.

Michel joined the company in February as the head of risk analytics, AIG Re.

In addition to heading up risk analytics for Validus, Alphacat, and Talbot treaty, he will work closely with AIG in order to help optimise capital strategies and create new ILS products.

Michel was most recently head of UK and EMEA analytics for reinsurance solutions at Aon, having joined the firm in September 2019 from Chaucer Syndicates.

At Chaucer, he was managing director of its European business, responsible for analytics, underwriting and parametric solutions for emerging and developing markets – as well as delivering alternative risk transfer products. He served as a managing director of Chaucer's Copenhagen office and senior treaty underwriter.

Michel was previously chief risk officer at Montpelier Re Bermuda and head of risk analytics, where he was responsible for risk strategy and portfolio risk management, R&D, analytics for Blue Capital and founder of the Montpelier Risk Institute.

He has also served in similar roles at Willis, Endurance, RMS, and Hannover Re.
