AmTrust at Lloyd’s hires head of space business

AmTrust at Lloyd’s has appointed Chris Gibbs as its new head of space, joining from Osprey Aerospace.

Prior to Osprey, Gibbs was the space class underwriter for Brit Insurance for eight years. Before that he was space underwriter for Assicurazioni Generali.

In his new role, Gibbs will be leading an underwriting team, supported by a satellite engineer with over 40 years’ experience in both the space sector and the insurance industry. As technical advisor John Fitton will be responsible for the technical analysis of space risks, the review of in orbit renewals, and the technical analysis of claims.

“This additional Space capability will position us as a market leader in this field as we look to grow this pioneering new book of business in the next few years,” said Chris Jarvis, ATL director of underwriting & active underwriter (s1861).

AmTrust’s space products cover satellites during their launch and in orbit operations. The bespoke policies can be produced for satellite owners and operators. Space is a niche class of business, with only approximately 40 satellite insurers globally.
