Aon Benfield appoints London A&H head

Aon Benfield, the reinsurance intermediary of Aon, has appointed Roger Smith as leader of the firm’s London accident, health and life team.

Based in London and reporting to Richard Dudley, Aon Benfield head of UK & Ireland and specialties, Smith will now develop and implement plans to bring strategic growth to the London accident, health and life team.

The US accident, health and life practice group, which Smith previously managed, will now be managed by Robert Black, Patrick Malloy and Mitchell Schepps.

Ellsworth Whiteman, global practice leader of Aon Benfield accident, health and life, said: “This new role represents a great opportunity for Roger, and is testament to his many years of success in the accident and health sector.

“We thank him for all his hard work in leading our US practice group, and we know that his counsel will continue to be valued by its new leadership team. We have always worked closely with our UK colleagues and Roger’s leadership will enhance our market presence in London to the benefit of our US and global client base.”

Dudley added: “Roger will be a great addition to our London team. He has already proved himself to be a capable leader of the US accident and health business, and we look forward to the experience and insights he will bring to his new role.

“In serving our clients, particularly those with the largest and most complex requirements, it is important that we can draw on the expertise of colleagues with a global perspective, and in this regard Roger’s knowledge will be invaluable.”

ACE Group announced today the appointment of Jeslyn Tan to the role of Regional Head of Agency for Asia Pacific based in Thailand. The creation of this new role is reflective of the commitment and investment in driving the expansion of the agency channel as part of the company’s strategic goal in the region to diversify its distribution channels.

Over the last five years, ACE Group has made several acquisitions in the region to grow and diversify its products and distribution: Malaysia in 2010 - Jerneh Insurance Berhad; Indonesia in 2012 – Asuransi Jaya Proteksi and Thailand in 2014 – Siam Commercial Samaggi Insurance PCL. With the acquisitions, ACE Group gained a growing agency force in Southeast Asia through which a whole range of general insurance products are distributed.

In this new role, Ms. Tan will spearhead the development of a systematic approach to business development within the agency channel based on sound portfolio management fundamentals. Ms. Tan returns to ACE from AIG where she was Vice President, Head of Agency & Broker Channel Management for five years. She first worked with ACE in 2001 where she headed Operations and Customer Service for the Accident and Health division.

Ms. Tan will report to Juan Luis Ortega, Regional President for ACE in Asia Pacific who commented, “As an accomplished and resourceful leader, we are fortunate to have Jeslyn re-join ACE. Armed with deep expertise in channel management as well as business development complemented by strong HR and training skills, Jeslyn is well equipped to lead the growth and development of our agency distribution. We have ambitious goals for our agency channel as we target to maximize the available opportunities across our product lines and in the various markets around the region.”
