Aspen Re appoints SVP & head of North American surety

Aspen Re, the reinsurance segment of Aspen Insurance Holdings, has appointed Scott Hurlburt as SVP and head of North American surety.

Hurlburt joins Aspen Re from Partner Re where he was vice president, specialty lines. He will report to Mike Sowa, managing director, Aspen Re, North America and also to Winfried Knust, global head of credit, surety and political risk reinsurance. He will be located in Connecticut and will focus on developing surety reinsurance business for Aspen Re in the US and Canada.

“Scott has more than twenty years of both insurance and reinsurance experience in the US and internationally. His appointment shows the continued growing strength of Aspen’s reinsurance business particularly in North America,” said Sowa.

Prior to joining Partner Re, Hurlbert worked at Swiss Re in Zurich, where he was vice president at its credit and surety reinsurance division. Previous roles include working for Swiss Re in the US, where he was vice president in the North American credit and surety underwriting team.

Before moving in to reinsurance with Swiss Re, he spent 13 years in the insurance market at Travelers Bond Unit, including a role as underwriting manager, executive liability, based in Connecticut.
