Chubb mines the HSBC vault to find new leadership for global life operations

Chubb has lured a top life insurance executive from HSBC to head up its international life insurance operations with its Asia-focus.

Bryce Johns (pictured) comes to Chubb as senior vice president, Chubb Group and president of Chubb Life after a stint as Global CEO of HSBC Life and Insurance Partnerships. Johns brings bancassurance experience from Citigroup plus roles at Manulife Asia in Hong Kong and at Old Mutual Group in South Africa, India and the UK.

Starting April, Johns will have executive responsibility for Chubb's international life insurance business, which is primarily Asia-focused with operations in key markets in North and Southeast Asia, including China through Huatai Life, as well as in Latin America and the Middle East. Johns will report directly to Evan Greenberg, Chubb chairman and CEO, and John Keogh, president and chief operating officer.

Chubb's most senior officer in life to-date, Russell Bundschuh, is leaving the company in January "to pursue other interests."

The appointment follows Chubb's October 2021 purchase of Cigna's operations throughout Asia and the Pacific. That deal is expected to close in 2022.

Chubb lauds Johns' background in strategic insurance distribution partnerships, wealth management, bancassurance, the launch of digitally integrated health and wellness platforms, and M&A negotiations and integration.
