Endurance makes two senior appointments

Endurance Specialty Holdings has made two senior appointments. Joan deLemps has been made chief risk officer while Catherine Kalaydjian has been appointed chief operations officer.

In her new role, deLemps will have oversight for corporate underwriting, corporate actuarial, risk management and ceded reinsurance. Kalaydjian will have management oversight of information technology, insurance and reinsurance underwriting operations, procurement and program management in addition to oversight of her former activities. Both will report to John Charman, the chairman and chief executive of Endurance.

With more than 35 years' experience in both insurance and reinsurance underwriting management roles, deLemps was most recently Endurance's chief underwriting officer, a role held since March 2010.

Kalaydjian, who is based in Endurance's Bermuda office, served as the chief claims officer since March 2007 and was promoted to chief administrative officer in December 2012, retaining her claims role.

She joined Endurance in 2003 as senior vice president, head of claims for the US reinsurance operations. Prior to that, she was senior vice president and head of claims for QBE North America.

Commenting on the appointment of deLemps, Charman said: “As we transform Endurance's global insurance and reinsurance footprints and their specialty product offerings, it is critically important that our enterprise risk management capabilities are at the highest and most responsive levels. To that end I have no doubt that Joan, with her broad market leading experience, management capability and insightful guidance and oversight, will achieve that goal. I very much look forward to working closely with Joan and her new team.”

Commenting on the appointment of Kalaydjian, Charman said: “Endurance is committed to quickly and significantly expanding our global footprint and product capabilities in our insurance and reinsurance specialty businesses. Endurance will truly differentiate itself over the next five years by achieving one of the lowest operating expense ratios in our industry. Cathy will be instrumental in helping us realise that goal.”
