The triple-punch of European windstorms in mid-February likely rendered €3.74 billion in insured losses, Swiss-based nat cat researcher PERILS has said in a revised estimate.
In total, close to 1.9 million individual insurance claims have been filed.
The majority of the losses occurred in Germany, followed by the Benelux states, the United Kingdom and France. Minor losses also occurred in Austria, Switzerland and Denmark.
The loss tally, built on submissions by the “majority of affected insurers” at the six-month point after event, is up from the €3.61 billion estimate at the three-month mark and the €3.29 billion early estate given end-March at the six-week point.
The European windstorm series was driven by a strong jet stream which led to a cluster of three low-pressure systems - Ylenia, Zeynep and Antonia (UK: Dudley, Eunice and Franklin) - that hit similar areas within less than a week through February 21.
