Markel bolsters cargo team with new hire from XL Catlin

Specialist insurer Markel International has appointed Monica Novella as assistant cargo underwriter in its marine, energy and property business.

Novella joins Markel from XL Catlin where she spent 16 years helping develop the cargo account.

In her new role, Novella will report to Ryan Godfrey, who was appointed in January as senior underwriter and head of the cargo team. Godfrey also joined the company from XL Catlin.

Chris Fenn, managing director of marine, said: "We are delighted with Monica’s appointment which adds further depth and underwriting strength to the existing team.

"With Ryan’s appointment at the beginning of the year it reflects Markel’s commitment to becoming a leading cargo team within Lloyd’s."
