Markel hires Talbot underwriter for expansion in Asia Pacific

Specialty insurer  Markel International, a subsidiary of the  Markel Corporation, has hired a senior marine underwriter focusing on fine art and specie insurance from Talbot.

The appointment strengthens Markel’s local underwriting capability, continuing its expansion in the Asia Pacific region.

Based in Singapore, Janita Leu (pictured) will report to Markel Asia’s director Colin Fordham and work closely with the marine team, both in Asia Pacific and across the wider Markel business.

Leu has more than 20 years of underwriting experience and was previously the business development manager and marine underwriter at Talbot Risk Services.

Christian Stobbs, managing director of Markel International in Asia, said: “We are looking forward to Janita joining us in our Singapore office as we continue our expansion in the Asia Pacific region. We are excited about the knowledge and experience that she brings as we seek to further support our brokers and clients with specialist underwriting capabilities. Janita has an exceptional profile across Fine Art and Specie in Asia Pacific, and she will be a great addition to the team.”
