Markel lands Hiscox talent to enter US war and terrorism market

Markel International, the specialty insurance subsidiary of  Markel Corporation, has hired a senior underwriter from Hiscox to lead its entry into the US war and terrorism market.

Ben Wakeham (pictured) joins the company as senior war and terrorism underwriter and head of terrorism, North America.

Wakeham will be responsible for developing strategies to scale growth and strengthen the organisation’s position in the domestic US terrorism market.

Reporting to Ed Winter, senior underwriter and head of terrorism at Markel International, Wakeham will be currently based at Markel’s London office, before moving to the US next year.

Previously, Wakeham was an assistant vice president and head of property and terrorism at Hiscox USA, Los Angeles, where he managed and grew the terrorism portfolio.. He also provided leadership and mentoring to Hiscox’s national team of underwriters.
