Markel lures CNA/TT Club hires to grow transport and logistics unit

Specialist insurer  Markel International has bolstered its transport and logistics capabilities and underwriting expertise with two new hires to drive profitable growth for the T&L class of business.

Jared Short joins as a senior underwriter of T&L, where his primary duties will include working alongside Holley Higgins, head of T&L at Markel International, to manage and grow the marine professional indemnity (PI), cargo liabilities, and logistics portfolios, to help clients make more empowered decisions for their businesses.

Previously, Short worked for CNA Hardy; starting as a T&L underwriter before his promotion to T&L senior underwriter, which he held for more than four years. Prior to that, Short spent over seven years at TT Club Mutual Insurance, where he served in an underwriter position.

Joe Holiday will assist Short as a T&L underwriter by providing a fresh approach to grow the UK logistics book of business, while working closely with other members of the T&L underwriting team, to develop client relationships and servicing brokers and partners.

Holiday was previously employed at TT Club Mutual Insurance, working across the firm’s cargo and liability portfolios. Before this position, he was a marine underwriting assistant for RSA Insurance Group, where his responsibilities included risk analysis, reinsurance processing, and credit control within the hull underwriting team.

Reporting to Higgins, both Short and Holiday will be based at Markel’s London office.

Higgins said: “We are pleased to welcome Jared and Joe to our T&L team. Having fresh eyes on the portfolio to potentially challenge why we do what we do, as well as identify new initiatives, projects, and ideas to enhance our current offering for customers, is an exciting opportunity for both individuals.”

She added: “Our T&L team has experienced robust growth since its inception last year, and with Short and Holiday’s appointments, this is a clear indication that the team will continue to strengthen, so that we can increase our leadership profile in our market and remain the ‘go-to’ insurer for all things transport and logistics-related.
