Montpelier Reinsurance has appointed Dr Gero Michel to the new position of head of risk analytics.
Michel will work to enhance Montpelier’s risk analysis for natural catastrophe exposed businesses including research, development, portfolio optimization and other underwriting initiatives. He will report directly to Christopher Schaper, president of Montpelier Reinsurance.
Schaper said that Michel will bring a wealth of intellectual capabilities, business experience and leadership qualities to Montpelier.
“Improving the assessment of risks and translating that knowledge into better underwriting decisions are key challenges in our industry, and the addition of Gero further strengthens our team in these areas," said Schaper.
Michel has nearly thirty years experience of analyzing natural disasters and risk, and was most recently managing director of Willis Research Network, as well as being head of product development for Willis Global.
