PartnerRe adds experienced banking exec to its board

PartnerRe has added considerable financial services experience to its board, appointing the former chief executive officer (CEO) of a large banking group as an independent director.

António Horta-Osório was formerly group chief executive officer (CEO) at Lloyds Banking Group, and served as executive director on its board, from 2011 until April 2021. Before that he was CEO at Santander UK and executive vice president of Grupo Santander.

He takes a seat on PartnerRe’s board and becomes chairman of the investment committee and a member of the underwriting and risk committee.

Horta-Osório is currently the chairman of Credit Suisse’s board, a role he assumed in April 2021. He has also served on the board of Exor as a non-executive director from July 2015 until May 2021.

Brian Dowd, chairman of PartnerRe’s board, said Horta-Osório’s “experience in the financial services sector spans over 34 years and he brings a depth and breadth of expertise that will further enhance the strength of the PartnerRe board.”

PartnerRe’s board now comprises six directors of which four are independent.
