Peak Re snares Echo/SCOR veteran to lead P&C underwriting business

Hong Kong-based reinsurer  Peak Re named a new chief for its global P&C underwriting business, tapping the chief underwriting officer of rival Echo Re.

Piotr Nowakowski (pictured) will lead underwriting, underwriting governance, portfolio management and product development for Peak Re's global P&C business.

Nowakowski will take up his post in February, working out of the company's seat in Hong Kong and reporting directly to CEO Franz Hahn.

Nowakowski last served as global chief underwriting officer for Echo Re, where he had been for nine years. He also brings 16 years’ experience from SCOR, including nine years as General Manager of SCOR’s Japan office in Tokyo, and Head of Strategy & Development, General Secretary of SCOR’s Global P&C business in Paris, France.

The Swiss-based reinsurer Echo Re has already announced it recruited Paul Hertelendy to replace Nowakowski. Hertelendy had been chief reinsurance investment officer at Bernina Re, head of reinsurance at Credit Suisse ILS and chief underwriting officer of specialty lines at SCOR.

Peak Re CEO Franz Hahn said: "Piotr will bring more than two decades of global reinsurance experience to his new role," said Mr. Hahn, "His technical expertise, international experience and underwriting capabilities will benefit Peak Re’s client-focused strategy. He will work closely with the Co-heads of P&C, to further develop our P&C business which is built on our expertise and unwavering focus on underwriting, risk analytics and market knowledge. I look forward to working with Piotr as the Company continues its growth journey."
