Perils provides footprint for central European floods

Perils, the Zurich-based catastrophe insurance data provider, has released the final Maximum Flood Extent map for the floods which affected Central Europe in June 2013.

The map is provided in a geo-coded format and can be imported into map viewers and geographical information systems. The data can also be combined with other geo-coded information, such as information on insured exposures, facilitating the post-event analysis.

The Maximum Flood Extent map, as well as the Rapid Flood Snapshots, are part of the trial phase of a project to provide satellite-based flood footprints for the insurance industry and are sponsored by the European Space Agency.

The footprints, which are based on the daily Rapid Flood Snapshots and include additional radar and optical satellite data, are produced by Vista and SERTIT and distributed by Perils.
