Pool Re names head of risk analysis
Pool Re, the mutual reinsurer that provides terrorism cover for commercial property in the UK, has appointed Ed Butler as head of risk analysis.
Reporting to chief executive Julian Enoizi, he will be responsible for the development of the company’s capability in understanding the terrorism threat landscape.
Butler is also a director of his own enterprise risk management firm, ARO Advisory. He was formerly an executive director of group business development at merchant banking firm Salamanca Group.
The evolution of terrorism has been profound and the UK is now faced with a more advanced, diverse and heightened threat than at any point in its recent history, according to Pool Re. It said a risk analysis and research capability will provide insight and analysis to ensure that Pool Re both continues to contribute to a stronger resilience in the face of the changing threat.
Enoizi said: “To ensure that Pool Re remains at the forefront of terrorism reinsurance it must adapt and over the past year we have implemented a number of initiatives in that regard. I am very pleased that Ed has joined us to develop our new risk analysis and research capability.
“His exceptional understanding and first-hand experience of the terrorism landscape will provide us, and our members, with an important and deepened level of insight.”
Butler added: “I am very pleased to join Pool Re in order to help build the new capability. The team and I will work closely with Pool Re’s members and its other stakeholders as well as its peers in foreign pools so as to develop a deeper understanding of the evolving threat.
“As a focal point for the development of terrorism risk expertise and risk control, this capability will benefit Pool Re, the industry as a whole and strengthen the UK’s resilience.”
