AIG launches $6.1m lawsuit in Kim Kardashian robbery case: report

American International Group (AIG) has filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, Oct. 3 in Delaware against Pascal Duvier and his company Protect Security seeking $6.1 million in relation to the Kim Kardashian West robbery, according to BBC News and CNN reports citing court documents.

Kardashian West was robbed at gunpoint and tied up during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016. CNN said that she was held at gunpoint and robbed of an estimated $10 million in cash and jewellery by five men dressed as police officers, citing the French Interior Ministry. The Paris prosecutor's office said a ring estimated in 2016 to be worth €4 million and a jewellery box with contents worth about €5 million euros were stolen, CNN added.

AIG reportedly paid for the cost of the jewellery stolen in the incident. Duvier at the time of the incident was accompanying Kardashian West's sisters, Kourtney and Kendall, to a nightclub, BBC News noted. AIG's lawsuit, filed in Delaware, reportedly claims the bodyguard and his firm left the celebrity alone in her room.

AIG claims Duvier and the security firm "negligently, carelessly, and/or recklessly performed their protection, security, monitoring, inspection, and/or surveying of" Kardashian West and the private apartment where she was staying for Paris Fashion Week in October 2016, CNN cited the complaint.

In the document, AIG reportedly says the defendants left Kardashian West alone in her room and failed to address and correct several security breaches, including a missing or broken lock, a malfunctioning intercom and the lack of closed-circuit television in the building. The company also says the building's concierge "did not have any security training and/or background," according to CNN.

AIG declined to comment when approached by Intelligent Insurer.
