AXA XL swoops on Markel to build ‘culture of inclusion and equity’

Re/insurer  AXA XL has tapped a  Markel executive with leadership experiences at Chubb and Amazon to drive the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts of the business.

Trevor Gandy (pictured) joins AXA XL as global head of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Gandy will be part of the HR leadership team and will lead the DEI strategy, working globally with business units and regional HR teams.

Gandy has over 25 years of experience within human resources, with the last decade focused on DEI and cultural dynamics within global corporations. His most recent role was managing director, talent, diversity, and inclusion, at Markel. Prior to that, he was principal, diversity, and inclusion at Amazon, and held numerous leadership positions at Chubb over a career spanning 20 years, including as deputy chief culture officer, and chief diversity officer.

Karen le Duc, chief human resources officer, said: “We are focused on taking tangible and measurable steps towards further building a culture of inclusion and equity. Trevor’s extensive experience and insight will be invaluable as we engage with senior leaders and our global workforce to continue to embed effective long-term DEI practices across our organisation worldwide.”
