Markel adds to war and terrorism team with new underwriting power from W/R/B

Markel International has plucked a terrorism underwriting expert from W/R/B Underwriting to help build out its offer in the war and terrorism market,  Markel said late Friday.

Matthew Brooke will underwrite the London team’s war and terrorism portfolio of business and develop new opportunities for the group. He reports to Will Newman, senior underwriter for war and terrorism and head of Africa at Markel International.

At W/R/B Underwriting, Brooke was last responsible for underwriting the organisation’s political risk and political violence (PV) portfolio.

“We’re excited to welcome Matt,” said Newman. “He expands the team in London and will help implement our long-term strategy. Matt brings experience in underwriting a global portfolio and will help enhance our service to both our brokers and clients – reinforcing our position as a leader in the political violence market.”
