Occam replaces CEO after three-year stint; eyes wider market opportunities

Specialist lines-focussed managing general agent (MGA)  Occam Underwriting has appointed a new chief executive officer to lead its next phase of growth, as well as expansion into other lines of business.

The company's chief financial officer Mark Fisher (pictured left) has been promoted to CEO.

Occam currently specialises in complex energy and space risks. The appointment is part of its strategic plans to grow the company by seizing market opportunities to expand into different lines of business. Previous CEO Lance Gibbins (picured right) will continue to serve the company as Chair.

Fisher has been CFO at Occam for the last three years. He has 25 years of experience within the insurance industry, working with both carriers and MGA operations, having started his career in audit. Prior to joining Occam, he held senior finance roles at CNA Insurance and Ironshore, a Liberty Mutual company.

“This is a really exciting time for Occam,” said Fisher. “We will be expanding the business to take advantage of new and emerging risks which require complex insurance protection, and more announcements will follow. I am thrilled at having the opportunity to lead Occam into its next phase of growth, and I am delighted that I will be able to continue to draw on Lance’s experience and expertise.”

Gibbins, who served as CEO since 2018, said: “I am pleased to hand over the day-to-day running of Occam to such a talented insurance leader as Mark. I am really happy to be able to support Mark in my position of Chair, and Occam is in good hands as it moves to the next stage of its growth and development.”
