Aon appoints Goldman Sachs exec to new global leadership role

Broker Aon has appointed Goldman Sachs' Joel Sulkes as global financial institutions leader, based in New York.

In this newly created position, Sulkes will focus on large, multinational financial institutions to drive strategic account growth in the US and other global regions.

Sulkes spent 11 years at Goldman Sachs managing its global insurance function within the firm’s risk organisation. For five of those years, he served as the chief operating officer of the firm’s physical commodities review committee, which reviewed the environmental, health, safety and reputational risk associated with certain physical commodities trades and investment activity. Most recently, Sulkes served as managing director, co-leading a team in Goldman Sachs’ operational risk department that was responsible for understanding, monitoring and managing first line operational risk across the firm globally.

“This appointment marks a milestone for Aon, as our financial institutions team will become part of Aon Global Specialties,” said Lambros Lambrou, CEO of global specialties at Aon. “Joel’s proven leadership experience, extensive financial institution thought leadership, as well as broad knowledge of risk mitigation and transfer strategies, make him a great fit to lead us into this new growth year.”
