Guy Carpenter appoints chief operating officer
Guy Carpenter has appointed Barbara Bufkin as chief operating officer for Guy Carpenter’s Global Strategic Advisory Group.
Bufkin will be based in New York and report to David Priebe, vice chairman of Guy Carpenter and Richard Booth, vice chairman of Guy Carpenter. She will be responsible for delivering the firm’s integrated offerings to insurance companies.
Prior to joining Guy Carpenter, Bufkin served as executive vice president, Corporate Business Development with Argo International Holdings. During her nearly 12 years with Argo, Barbara worked in Texas, Bermuda and most recently London, helping to build the foundation of the company.
A 30-year plus veteran of the insurance industry, she has also served as director of Swiss Re New Markets, and as chairman, president and CEO of Swiss Re subsidiary, Facility Insurance Corporation (FIC) and Facility Insurance Holding Corporation (FIHC). Over the course of her accomplished career, Bufkin has held additional executive positions in the insurance industry, most notably with Sedgwick Payne Company and E.W. Blanch Company.
