Plaudits for industry heroes at Intelligent Insurer’s Cyber Insurance Awards Europe 2024
Cyber threats and attacks are never far from the headlines with state threat actors, ransomware and zero-day breaches becoming almost part of the daily lexicon.
However, there are many people across the industry who have worked to ensure people better understand these risks as well as developing the coverage that is needed.
With this in mind, Intelligent Insurer’s Cyber Insurance Awards Europe 2024 was pleased to recognise some of the people in the industry who not only come to the rescue when the worst happens but who also work hard to prevent the many more attacks you never have to hear about.
In the Cyber Law Firm of the Year category, judges were impressed by winner Kennedys and how deeply immersed the company is across the cyber breach and data risk ecosystem. Judges highlighted the law firm’s knowledge of the claims process, its approach to innovation as well as with its client feedback as reasons for its top spot. The highly commended prize went to Clyde & Co in this category.
Kroll was the standout winner in the Cyber Insurance Incident Response of the Year—Sponsored by Resilience. The judges were impressed by Kroll’s end-to-end expertise, its positive contribution to the wider market and its agenda to upskill others in the industry. The highly commended gong went to Canopius.
In the Inspiring Woman in Cyber Insurance award category, the judges chose Lyndsey Bauer, partner at Paragon International Insurance Brokers, as the winner.
The judges recognised that Bauer has been instrumental in shaping the cyber insurance industry. From early iterations of insurer wordings, to simplifying the product, articulating a value proposition to retail broker partners and insureds and addressing misinformation in the industry, she is one of the most experienced and technical brokers in the market with great product knowledge, the judges said. This category awarded joint highly commended recognition to Yosha DeLong, global head of Cyber at Mosaic Insurance and Eleanor Ludlam, partner at Pinsent Masons.
In the one to watch category Rising Star in Cyber Insurance—Sponsored by Aon— the winner, Rebecca Emerson, senior claims adjuster at Liberty Specialty Markets, really impressed the judges. They extolled Emerson’s commitment to innovation and inspiration and her proactive approach to all aspects of her role, as well as her efforts to help women across the cyber claims field. She helps to support up-and-coming talent as a mentor to young claims employees. In this category, Cailee Steininger, senior cyber underwriter at Resilience, collected a highly commended prize.
Judges described the winner of the Cyber Legend Award Jürgen Reinhart, chief underwriter Cyber at Munich Re, as a formidable champion of cyber. During Reinhart’s extensive and exceptional career, the judges said he has had a “truly global impact on the cyber industry”. Not only has he helped to build a 150+ person team at Munich Re where its cyber portfolio is forecast to grow to $1.7 billion by 2025, but he has acted for the greater good of the industry—pushing through standards and driving forward innovation.
“The cyber industry wouldn’t be what it is today without Jürgen Reinhart,” the judges agreed.
Jacqueline Spencer-Sim, divisional director of Cyber at Hamilton Insurance Group, was recognised in this category with a highly commended award.
A Special Recognition in Cyber Insurance Award was presented to Neil Arklie by the Intelligent Insurer team in recognition of Arklie’s continued advice, practical support and willingness to help Intelligent Insurer to drive forward industry innovation.
