Willis Re hires Swiss Re exec in Asia

Willis Re has appointed an experienced executive from Swiss Re to head up its life and health operations in Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Turkey and Africa (APMETA).

Greg Solomon becomes a regional director in its international division of Willis Re. He will be based in Hong Kong and will start leading the life and health team from May.

Solomon spent 21 years with Swiss Re in various roles in different countries, previously running its global reinsurance capital management team out of London, and most recently as head of life and health clients in Hong Kong, Taiwan & South East Asia.

Solomon said: "Growth in the life and health reinsurance market is driven by an increasing desire by life insurers to enhance their product offering and to improve their risk management, so as a result they have a need to find the most appropriate reinsurance solutions available to support this.

“The life and health market represents a sector where an appropriately resourced and qualified intermediary can add significant value in the quantification of risk along with the design and placement of appropriate solutions."

Maurice Williams, managing director of Willis Re APMETA, said: "We are delighted to have someone of Greg's calibre join our Life & Health team and are excited about the opportunities to work with existing and new clients across the APMETA region. This area of our business represents a significant opportunity for enhancing the overall reinsurance product offering and Greg's deep industry experience will play a key role in enabling us to deliver that extra value to clients."
